Dr. Reid and Dr. Thammasouk Laboratory Profile

As part of a general screening we strongly encourage our patients to assess their body’s vitamin & mineral stores, hormone levels and inflammatory markers using our Laboratory Profile. This tool provides valuable information to help us see inside the body and determine the health of your body’s terrain and which specific treatments you will benefit from. We use this tool to ensure you are reaching optimal levels of vitamin & minerals in addition to addressing nutrient or hormonal deficiencies.

Conventional Blood and Urine Testing

These tests are used as a general screening or monitoring a current health condition. Testing may include some of the following: Complete Blood Count (CBC), liver panel, kidney function, electrolytes, blood sugar, cholesterol, thyroid, B12, and iron.

Saliva Hormone Testing

Saliva is considered the best predictor of your body’s hormone levels and is most useful for uncovering hormone imbalances. Hormones tested are estrogen, progesterone, cortisol, DHEA-s, and testosterone. Once a hormone imbalance has been uncovered, nutritional or bio-identical hormone therapy can be instituted.  Back to Top

Food Allergy/Sensitivity Testing

Symptoms and diseases that may be associated with food allergy/sensitivities:

Gastrointestinal Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Canker sores, Celiac disease, Chronic diarrhea, Stomach ulcers, Duodenal ulcers, Recurrent mouth ulcers, Indigestion, Nausea, Vomiting, Diarrhea, Constipation, Gas, Gastritis, Malabsorption, Ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, Colic (babies)
Genitourinary Bed wetting, Chronic bladder infections, Frequent urination
Ears, Nose, Throat Frequent colds or flu, Chronic infections, Frequent ear infections,
Head Migraines, Headaches
Mental/Emotional Attention Deficit Disorder/Autism, Depression, Anxiety, Memory loss, Epileptic seizures, Schizophrenia
Musculoskeletal Joint pain, Back pain, Rheumatoid arthritis
Respiratory Sinus infections, Asthma, Constant runny or congested nose
Cardiovascular Irregular heart rhythm, Vasculitis, Inflammation of the veins, Spontaneous bruising, Edem
Skin Acne, Eczema, Psoriasis, Red itchy eyes, Itchy skin

Allergy Testing (Environmental)

A microscopic amount of an allergen is introduced to a patient's skin and a specific reaction may occur if an allergy is present. If a reaction does occur allergy treatment utilizing Sublingual Immunotherapy is initiated. These prepared drops are made up to your own allergic profile (as determined by the allergy test). These drops are taken daily under the tongue. Patients report a dramatic improvement in allergy symptoms over time, and an even greater reduction on reliance on anti-histamines.  Back to Top

Body Composition Measurements through BIA (Biological Impedance Analysis)

Our BIA machine is one of the most sophisticated tools used in a clinical setting to reliably and accurately measure your body fat in relation to lean muscle mass and your hydration status. It is safe and painless to use. Body weight alone (the number on a scale) is not an accurate measure of body composition, and therefore, not an accurate measure of overall health. Even after losing weight, you still might be considered over-fat if your weight loss occurred predominantly from muscle and not from fat. When a person has excess fat on the inside while looking normal on the outside may still result in disease risks similar to those who appear to be overweight. Preserving lean muscle also increases metabolic rate, enabling the body to burn calories more effectively each day. When used as a part of a program which includes a healthy diet, personalized nutritional supplements and exercise, our BIA machine allows us to target fat loss, preserve lean muscle and shape your body for better health. Hair Mineral Analysis

Hair analysis testing can give indications of possible heavy metal toxicity and mineral deficiencies. Back to Top

Toxic or Heavy Metal Testing

Urine toxic or Heavy Metal Testing (for lead and mercury, for example) is an invaluable tool for the assessment of retention of toxic metals in the body. Toxic metals do not have any useful physiological function and they adversely affect virtually every organ system and disrupt the homeostasis of nutrient elements. Elevated levels may contribute to a host of physical symptoms. Back to Top

Comprehensive Stool Analysis and Parasitology

Gastrointestinal (GI) complaints are among the most common reasons that patients seek medical care. Symptoms associated with GI disorders include persistent diarrhea, constipation, bloating, indigestion, irritable bowel syndrome and malabsorption. The Comprehensive Stool Analysis with Parasitology may be used to assess digestive and absorptive functions and the presence of opportunistic pathogens (yeast or candida, bacteria, and parasites).  Back to Top

Organic Acid Testing

The Organic Acids Test (OAT) provides a metabolic “snapshot” based on those products the body discarded during urination. This test can be used on adults or children. These small organic acid molecules are byproducts of human cellular activity, the digestion of foods, and the life cycles of gastrointestinal flora. Organic acid test has the ability to reliably detect the overgrowth of yeast and bacteria species commonly missed by conventional culture methods. Additional pathways of interest include products of carbohydrate digestion, mitochondrial function which produces most cellular energy, many vitamin levels, neurotransmitter metabolites, fatty acid oxidation abnormalities or ketosis, oxalate levels, and inborn errors of metabolism (genetic testing). In addition, it checks for many other abnormalities such as vitamin deficiencies and abnormal metabolism of catecholamines, dopamine, and serotonin. Once any abnormalities are detected, there are a variety of treatment options available to correct the condition. Back to Top

Yeast/Candida Testing

This test can be performed by using the Organic Acid Test(urine), by blood looking for Candida Antibodies or by collecting the stool for analysis under the microscope. If the yeast grows in culture after collecting the stool sample, sensitivity of that yeast to prescription anti-fungals and to natural antimicrobials is determined. This information is valuable in directing therapy for yeast overgrowth. Back to Top

Gluten and Casein Peptide Test

This test is utilized on children with special needs (Autism, ADHD, Tourette’s) where there is suspected sensitivity to Gluten and Casein (found in dairy products). The test is a collection of urine and is commonly done along side the Organic Acid Test. When there are peptides found in the urine to gluten or casein it is recommended to do a gluten/casein free diet for a trial period. Back to Top

Urine or Plasma Amino Acids

Amino acid analyses aid in the diagnosis of dietary protein adequacy and balance, gastrointestinal dysfunctions, detoxification capacity and psychiatric abnormalities. It is often used for treating mood disorders (anxiety, depression) by determining the availability of precursors of neurotransmitters. Neurotransmitters help regulate pain, reduce anxiety, promote happiness, initiate deep sleep, boost energy, and mental clarity. Back to Top

Infectious Agents

The presence of various infectious agents may be a contributing factor in certain auto immune diseases or fatigue related syndromes. Commonly tested infectious agents detected by Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) include:

  • Aspergillus spp.
  • Chlamydia spp. (C.pneumoniae, C. psittaci)
  • Candida albicans
  • Cytomegalovirus
  • Human herpesvirus 6
  • Mycoplasma spp. (M. pneumoniae, M. fermentans, M. hominis, M. penetrans) Back to Top

Micronutrient Testing

Overwhelming scientific evidence confirms that vitamin, mineral, and antioxidant deficiencies are associated with disease processes and the overall condition of one’s health. These deficiencies have been shown to suppress immune function and contribute to chronic degenerative processes such as arthritis, cancer, cardiovascular risk, diabetes, various immunological disorders and metabolic disorders. This micronutrient test evaluates over 31 vitamins, minerals, amino acids and antioxidants. It is designed to provide you with the most comprehensive nutritional analysis available. Back to Top

Applied Kinesiology

Subtle incompatibilities between a patient's electromagnetic energy field and that of the substance in question can be detected by the naturopathic physician merely by placing the substance in direct contact with the patient's body and observing the reaction of the key muscle groups involved.
